ʻO Makuʻu Ke Kāhua is a Native Hawaiian community organization rooted in the Makuʻu lands. They needed a visual identity that belonged to the community, not one borrowed from somewhere else.
We built a full icon suite drawn from the hala tree: Hīnano, Hua Hala, Lei Hala, Pua Hala, and ʻIʻo Hala. Each icon became part of a larger pattern and brand system that carries across merch, uniforms, signage, and social.
On top of the identity, we handled content and event marketing for Kuʻi Fest, capturing the energy of the gathering and turning it into content the community actually engaged with.
This is what culturally grounded design looks like. The culture is the foundation, not the decoration.
